5 Best Homemade Hot Cocoa Recipes

Hot cocoa has been around for ages! It has always been a family favorite around the holidays. One of my family's favorite tradition is to gather in the living room to watch Polar Express, while drinking our hot cocoa. Here are 5 different types of hot chocolate recipes to try at home!


1. Classic Hot Chocolate


Ingredients:

¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

¼ cup granulated sugar

¼ cup water

4 cups whole milk

4 large marshmallows

Directions:

1. In a large saucepan, whisk together the cocoa, sugar, and water over medium heat.

2. Add the milk and heat until warmed through. Serve with a marshmallow on top.


2. Mexican Hot Chocolate


Ingredients:

4 cups whole milk

½ cup water

8 oz. semisweet chocolate chips

2 Tbsp. sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

½ tsp. chili powder

¼ tsp. ground cinnamon

¼ tsp. salt


Directions:

1. Over medium heat, combine all the ingredients in a large saucepan.

2. Whisk constantly until mixture is hot, but not boiling, about 6–8 minutes.

3. Pour into mugs and serve.


3. Pumpkin Spice White Chocolate


Ingredients:

4 cups whole milk

1 cup canned pumpkin puree

1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract

1 cup white chocolate, roughly chopped

4 tablespoons white chocolate shavings, for garnish

2 teaspoon cinnamon, for garnish

Whipped cream, for garnish


Directions:

1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the milk, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice and cloves.

2. Stir constantly until slightly simmering.

3. Remove from heat, then stir in the vanilla and chocolate.

4. Pour into glasses and top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and sprinkle with cinnamon.

5. Serve and enjoy!


4. Frozen Hot Chocolate


Ingredients:

1 quart vanilla ice cream

1 1/4 cups hot chocolate, cooled

Whipped cream, for topping

Miniature marshmallows

Hot fudge


Directions:

1.Prepare glasses by dipping rims into heated hot fudge.

2. In a blender, combine ice cream and hot chocolate. Blend just until combined.

3. Pour into 4 glasses and top with miniature marshmallows, and whipped cream.


5. Hot Chocolate with a Twist


Ingredients:

1/2 gallon 2% or whole milk

1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk

1 package (10-12 oz.) dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 teaspoon vanilla

Stir ins, such as flavored coffee syrup, chocolate-hazelnut spread or peanut butter

Whipped cream

Sprinkles, if desired


Directions:

1. In crock of 4-5 quart slow cooker, heat milk, sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips in microwave on High 6 minutes, stirring halfway through cooking, until chocolate can be whisked into milk and mixture is warm.

2. Place in slow cooker; cover and cook on High at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until steamy. Stir in vanilla.

3. Place about 1 tablespoon desired stir-in into mugs. Ladle hot chocolate over stir-ins; stir to incorporate. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles, if desired.

4. Add a teaspoon of instant espresso powder to each mug for a flavorful jolt.
