10+ Items to Store in Your First Aid Kit For Traveling

Updated: Dec 5, 2020

With summer approaching, planning vacations is in full effect. With so much to do in so little time we all make the common mistake of packing unnecessary items, leaving important items, or not being prepared for the the unexpected mishaps that happen along the way. Being a military brat traveling with four siblings, having a first aid kit on hand was a must. Thankfully, we had very few visits to the local emergency room while on vacation because my mom was prepared for every situation. Here are 18 emergency items to keep in your first aid kit when traveling and hopefully keep you out of the emergency room while on vacation.

You may be asking, "Where do I store all these items?" First aid kits don't need to be fancy; they just need to be functional. You can can use small containers such as a shoe box, an old lunchbox, clear Ziploc bags, craft boxes, and even a plain old cardboard box as long as you waterproof it. The size of your first aid kit and first aid items will be dependent upon the size of your family. The amount of each item you place in your first aid kit depends on the size of your family. If the thought of trying to compile a first aid kit seems overwhelming, opt for the easy route and purchase one from your local retail store such as Target or Walmart. Don't like to shop in-store, then order one online. Amazon also has a variety of first aid kits. If you're traveling by vehicle make sure you also invest in a roadside emergency kit and ensure your auto insurance covers towing, should you need it. Happy travels wherever your summer vacation takes you!
